“Casas do Palheiro Velho” consists of some contiguous buildings which are part of a farm house built in the first half of the last century. It is located in the surroundings of “Castro Marim” ten minutes away from the beach (praias da Baía de Monte Gordo), therefore you can fully enjoy it’s tranquillity and charm.
In order to preserve organic architecture and region characteristics our houses were carefully restored using traditional materials such as canes, “ cal”, wood, Portuguese roof tile, porcelain tile of “Santa Catarina” and wool sheep for isolation.
The environment has always been a matter of concern for us. Therefore we have an efficient dark water treatment which makes it converge into a filter system of aerobiosis. Subsequently it will be poured into a “fito-etar” where the waters are purified by halophytes and riparian shrubs. Waters are then captured in a pit which irrigates the garden. The grey waters from the baths and washbasins are processed through a system that purifies it to be reused into washing clothes, toilets and garden watering.
In this context, the visitors will never be harming the fragile balance of the ecosystem of the mountains.
